Casting Call Success

Throughout this experience of producing a film, nothing as quiet been like Casting. We get to see people in a new light. Since Olin is so small, a lot of the actors are from here on campus. As casting directors it is up to us to throw away those inherent biases. Just because we work with students in one context, doesn't mean they will be the same when they begin to act in front of the camera.
The awesome thing is, we get to see the students transform, from members of the Olin Community, to some grumpy members of a line. They are able to change who they are to be a character that has little to do with them. It is wonderful to see and is one of the highlights of the process.
Moving into the future I must believe that it will be important for us to remember the joy of casting as we have to pivot and begin to turn people away. I find a great deal of difficulty saying no to people. Now we just have to phrase it correctly.
